The Sufficiency of Christ 📖

Week 6 Small Group (Monday). Focussing on Colossians 2:13-26

Paul is writing to the church in Colossae, which is being influenced by various false teachers. His aim is to provide encouragement that the Good News of Christ is sufficient for salvation and that nothing mankind can do is required. We can’t hope to follow deceptive man-made rules and there is no elite knowledge required.

Christ is absolute, Christ is sufficient

Jesus Christ cut away our sin from the inside, while baptism symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection we share with Christ as believers. Our charges and our debt have been wiped out through forgiveness. We have been freed to live for Christ and with Christ.

Following the daily, annual, monthly, and weekly rituals can never do this. Everything else pales in comparison and is a shadow. The reality is Christ. Even angels should not be worshipped (Revelation 22:8-9). Anyone spreading these false teachings are not connected to Christ and only seem to have the appearance of wisdom and humility. This self-imposed worship lacks value and doesn’t stop our desires and indulgences. We can’t reach God by doing these things. 🚷

It is through the Good News that God reaches down to us and asks for our response. We aren’t to be rooted in our own efforts, but rather focused on Christ. Salvation doesn’t depend on our own disciple and rule-keeping, but rather the power of Christ’s death and resurrection.➕

Keeping the thinking going...

Pray for someone who needs to learn the grace of God. 🙏🏻

Encourage someone to focus on Christ and ask them if you can help them deepen their faith.
